Climate change education
Education is key to tackling the climate crisis
We believe that education is key to tackling the climate crisis. Together with Cambridge schools, we can empower young people with the skills and knowledge to take action on climate change, helping them be ready for the world.
We believe that amplifying student voices and developing their critical, creative and communication skills is key to finding solutions to the climate crisis. We want to inspire and empower learners to solve problems by considering the challenge from different perspectives – global and local.
By embedding climate change into the curriculum, we can help every Cambridge school deliver climate change education that shapes knowledge, understanding and skills, and gives learners the confidence to thrive and make a positive impact in our changing world.
High quality climate change education
What does good climate change education look like and how is it delivered?
Building on research from the University of Cambridge, our experience as the world’s largest provider of international education programmed, and insight from our global community of 10 000 Cambridge schools in over 160 countries, we will champion world-class climate change education.
We believe that:
- local context matters. We will work together with Cambridge schools to equip students with the skills they need to respond creatively to national and global climate challenges. Our teaching and learning programmed will provide students with the skills they need.
- the breadth of the climate crisis requires a multi-disciplinary response. Our aligned approach across curriculum, assessment, teaching & learning and resources means that climate change education is being integrated throughout Cambridge Pathway, reaching all stages of school curricula.
- learners need a balance of knowledge, skills and attitudes to effectively respond to the climate crisis. In addition to the integration of climate change knowledge throughout the Cambridge Pathway, our active learning approach is key to developing learners’ critical, creative and communication skills to inspire action and make a positive impact. Our Cambridge learner attributes build the attitudes and values to drive action in climate change.
How Cambridge is supporting schools now
We aim to empower future generations to respond and adapt to climate change. Through our multi-disciplinary curriculum, we support schools to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to respond creatively to local, national and global climate challenges.
For young people to understand the impacts, they must gain fluency in knowledge about climate change, its causes, effects and possible responses. We are embedding this knowledge and understanding in our teaching and learning programmed from primary through to upper secondary.
